Frequently asked questions
and the right answers
What are the lubricant sticks made of?
Made of kerosene and graphite.
How often do you lubricate?
Lubrication once a week is normally sufficient.
How many sticks are needed?
Depending on the diameter, 8 – 12 lubricant sticks are required per race.
How do the sticks work?
The wax, which only serves as a carrier material, melts, evaporates or burns at the high temperatures. What remains is the graphite as the actual lubricant.
Are there different sizes of sticks?
The lubricant sticks are available in lengths of 150 mm, 195 mm and 240 mm.
How do I know if the lubrication quantity is sufficient?
Test for sufficient lubrication by feeling the inside of the race with your hand when the stove is switched off and has cooled down.
How is a race lubricated?
The sticks are placed by hand between the slide ring plates – i.e. between the kiln tube and the race – while the kiln is rotating. For safety reasons, it is advisable to reduce the oven speed.
Are there alternatives to lubricant sticks?
Race rings on rotary kilns are usually maintained by spraying liquid lubricant. However, this type of lubrication has several other negative effects in addition to the significantly dirtier application of the lubricant, making lubricant sticks a clear alternative!
